David Marks and Julia Barfield not only conceived and designed the wheel, they also took the entrepreneurial approach in establishing the London Eye Company which made it a reality.

Das Riesenrad wurde von den Architekten David Marks und Julia Barfield entworfen. Aufgestellt wurde es zu den Millenniumsfeierlichkeiten im Jahr 2000 (daher auch Millenium Wheel genannt). Auch Kate Moss hatte bereits 25 Runden mit dem London Eye gedreht.Das gesamte Riesenrad wiegt mehr als 1.000 Tonnen.Es gab bereits mehr als 500 Hochzeiten.In unmittelbarer Nähe findet ihr viele weitere Attraktionen wie den London Dungeon, das Sea Life Aquarium, Shrek Adventure und das 4D-Kinoerlebnis des London Eye. Wer diese Attraktionen besuchen will, sollte sich den Merlin Pass buchen und kann so auch Madame Tussaudsund weitere Sehenswürdigkeiten Londons günstig nutzen.
Bei meinem Besuch des London Eye war das Wetter mäßig und die Sicht auf die Stadt ganz okay. Ehrlich gesagt fand ich es eher langweilig und unspektakulär. Gute Aussicht habt ihr an vielen anderen Stellen in London genauso und vor allen Dingen günstiger. (z.B. Westminster Cathedral, St. Pauls, Tate Modern, Garden at 120 und Skygarden) Aber irgendwie...
