Lena Herzog is a Russian-born American artist who explores themes of ritual, loss and dislocation through photography, sound, installation and VR. She has published six books of her work and created Last Whispers, an immersive oratorio of vanishing languages and dying stars.
Last Whispers is an invocation of languages that have gone extinct and an incantation of those that are endangered. Last Whispers is an immersive oratorio composed of historical voice recordings of extinct and endangered languages spanning a century, as well as made-audible gravitational waves caused by supernovae.
