Ronnie Spector est née Veronica Yvette Bennett à Washington Heights, fille d'une mère afro-américaine-cherokee et d'un père irlandais-américain. Elle et sa sœur, Estelle Bennett (1941-2009), ont été encouragées à chanter par leur famille nombreuse, tout comme leur cousine, Nedra Talley.
