7. Aug. 2012 · Stuart Swanlund, longtime guitarist for The Marshall Tucker Band, died in his home August 4. He was 54 and passed away from natural causes. Swanlund was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He joined The Marshall Tucker Band in 1985, and when the band wasn’t on tour, he performed with the Chicago-based Tone Generators.

8. Aug. 2012 · Stuart Swanlund Dies, Marshall Tucker Band Guitarist Mourned. Stuart Swanlund, the guitarist for the Marshall Tucker Band, died at age 54 on Saturday. 7. Aug. 2012 · Stuart Craig Swanlund was born in Puerto Rico on April 3, 1958. Swanlund was reared in Spartanburg, SC, where he would sit on his grandmother’s porch and listen to his neighbor, Doug Gray, rehearse with a rock and roll band across the street. He was only five years old, and had no way of knowing he’d one day play alongside Gray and The Marshall Tucker Band.
