Glen Hansard begann seine musikalische Karriere als Straßenmusiker in Dublin. Er ist Sänger und Gitarrist der irischen Rockband The Frames und war Hauptdarsteller in Once. Dessen Regisseur John Carney war bei The Frames bis 1993 Bassist. Hansard spielte auch die Figur Outspan Foster im Musikfilm Die Commitments .
Glen Hansard reift zu einem großartigen Songwriter. Das gilt nicht für jedes einzelne Stück, gegen Ende sind 1-2 leicht kitschige Songs dabei. Aber das Album ist insgesamt stimmig. Es enthält eindrucksvoll instrumentalisierte Titel. Dabei lehnt sich Hansard wohl an Van Morrison an. Aber auch herzzerreißender Gesang begleitet von seinem typischen Straßenmusiker-Geschrammel sind dabei.
