Madagascar, The first film in the series, was released in Theatres May 27th 2005. Directed by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath, the film tells the story of four Central Park Zoo animals, Alex The Lion , Marty the Zebra , Melman The Giraffe and Gloria The Hippo who have spent their lives in blissful captivity in the New York City Zoo and are unexpectedly shipwrecked on the island of Madagascar.
