The Layton School of Art closed in 1974. However, its legacy lives on through the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), which continues to preserve and showcase the Layton School of Art Collection—an invaluable resource comprising archival materials, drawings, paintings, various forms of design work, and more.
Layton School of Art & Design was an employer operating an institution of higher education. Neil Lieberman was president of the school. The underlying facts giving rise to the appeal before us occurred in February, 1973, when Lieberman dismissed seven teachers for incompetence.

Photographs, mostly dating from 1954 to 1974, document Layton classrooms, art education, student projects, and some of the exhibitions held at the school, including the 1948 Centennial Exhibition of Contemporary Wisconsin Art. There are also views of the building, faculty, Layton Art Gallery, and student life.
