Im Italienfeldzug (1943–1945) spielte der Amerikaner Mark Clark eine Hauptrolle. Zuerst als Befehlshaber der amerikanischen 5. Armee, danach als Befehlshaber der 15. Armeegruppe. Im Alter von 48 Jahren wurde er als jüngster in der amerikanischen Militärgeschichte zum Vier-Sterne-General befördert.
M ark W. Clark was best known for his command of the U.S. Fifth Army in World War II (1939–45), which he led through Italy in some of the most difficult and decisive battles of the war. By the end of that conflict, he was considered one of the top generals in the United States armed forces.
