He had an inborn vocation in him, and attracted by the figure of Don Bosco, he entered the Salesian novitiate in Portici, near Naples on 15 August 1947 and made his perpetual vows on 25 September 1954 again in Naples, and was ordained a priest in Turin on 1 July 1958.
