Martinez was born Adolfo Laurre Martínez III in Glendale, California. As a child, his family would refer to him as "A" and "Little A" to distinguish him from his father and grandfather, and he later adopted "A Martinez" as his stage name. He has Mexican and Apache heritage on his father's side, and Piegan Blackfeet and Northern European heritage on his mother's side.
