Eastern Andalusian Spanish (henceforth EAS), is spoken in the east of Andalusia, the southernmost autonomous region of Spain. EAS is most similar to Western Andalusian Spanish (WAS) and to Murcian Spanish, the latter spoken in the autonomous region of Murcia, immediately to the east of Andalusia, and it shares some phonetic traits with EAS, such as vowel lowering.
This brief article presents the identifying features of Castilian and offers some interesting information about the evolution of Spanish -- in a nutshell. It's a good primer for people who have no background in linguistics or the history of Spanish. Great for junior high or early high school students beginning to study Spanish. It contrasts Castilian with other languages and dialects.

One of the less acknowledged differences between Castilian Spanish and Latin American Spanish is the way in which the future tense is used in each dialect. In Spain the use of the simple future is the norm, while in Latin American the near future tense ( ir + a + infinitive) is used with more regularity.

Diphthongs. Spanish has rising diphthongs, formed by the glides [j] or [w] plus a syllabic nucleus, and falling diphthongs, formed by a syllabic nucleus plus the glides [i8] or [u8]. In fast speech, sequences of vowels in hiatus reduce so that one becomes [–syllabic]. If both vowels have the same timbre they fuse: la Alhambra [la "lamb|a].
