The purpose of the Prairie View Trail is to promote agricultural interest in young Americans and to perpetuate those principles and methods which have come to be regarded as the ideals and traditions of the Western World as well as the black Western Heritage. It serves as a booster for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and supports Prairie View A&M University in their educational programs.
