Our Journey. In 1989, two people joined hands to pursue a dream. Unbeknownst to them, this dream of theirs became a phenomenal driving force that has and continues to redefine the arts in Malaysia. The duo is none other than husband-and-wife team Dato’ Dr. Faridah Merican and Joe Hasham OAM, Founders of The Actors Studio (Malaysia).
Actors Studio membership, which is for life, is by invitation; from 1,000 auditions, six or seven new members are chosen each year. Lee Strasberg was director from 1948 to 1982. Strasberg extended the teachings of Konstantin Stanislavsky and developed method acting, in which actors used their own emotional memory for the purpose of dramatic motivation.

The Actors Studio was founded in 1947 in New York City, by Elia Kazan, Cheryl Crawford and Robert Lewis. Lee Strasberg became Artistic Director in 1951, and remained so until his death in 1982. In New York, Al Pacino, Harvey Keitel and Ellen Burstyn are Co-Presidents. In West Hollywood Mark Rydell is the Artistic Director and Martin Landau and Mark Rydell are the Executive Directors.
