Samuel Annesley was a prominent Puritan and nonconformist pastor, best known for the sermons he collected as the series of Morning Exercises. Background He was the son of John Aneley, born in Haseley, in Warwickshire in 1620.

Annesley, Samuel, D.D. maternal grandfather of John Wesley, was one of the leading non- conformist divines of his day, and a man of good family, being a nephew of the earl of Anglesea.
