Charles Crichton is perhaps best remembered as the director of the unlikely blockbuster hit A Fish Called Wanda, made when he was seventy-seven years old.But the most significant part of his career was spent at Ealing Studios in the 1940s and 1950s, working on such beloved comedies as Hue and Cry, The Lavender Hill Mob and The Titfield Thunderbolt.

Charles Crichton. Director: A Fish Called Wanda. Director Charles Crichton's film career began as an editor in 1935 with Alexander Korda's London Films, and in that capacity he worked on such productions as Sanders of the River (1935), Things to Come (1936) and Elephant Boy (1937) (which introduced Sabu to movie audiences).
Charles Crichton and Gilbert Laws acted as crew to owner and helmsman Thomas McMeekin aboard Dormy, which won the 6-metre class at the 1908 Olympics.Crichton was a member of the Royal Cruising and Royal Southern Yacht Clubs and while on military service in India he sailed with the Royal Bombay Yacht Club.
