Der Wahnwitz bleibt bei Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark aus. An seine Stelle tritt das große Nichts, denn der Film hört tatsächlich auf zu erzählen. Schlusspointen werden vorhersehbar oder stellen Wiederholungen von anfangs etablierten Motiven dar. Einmal mischt sich sogar ein bewusst komisches Element in die Horrormär, das so gar nicht zum Rest des Films passen mag.
