Peter Garrett im Wahlkampf 2007. Noch während seiner Karriere als Musiker versuchte Garrett, in der australischen Politik Fuß zu fassen. 1984 war er Mitbegründer der Nuclear Disarmament Party, scheiterte jedoch bei dem Versuch, einen Sitz im Australischen Senat zu erlangen.

Zwar nicht als Band, aber im Grunde in der Lichtgestalt ihres Frontmannes PETER GARRETT, der selbst im Alter von nunmehr 70 Jahren auch auf „The True North“ wieder die Betten brennen (oder wenigstens flackern) lässt, die seine Band und er anno 1987 auf dem als bestes australisches Album aller Zeiten gehandelten „Diesel And Dust“ entfachten.

In 1973, Garrett became the lead singer of the Australian rock band Midnight Oil. As a performer he is known for his signature bald head, his eccentric dance style, and a "mesmerising onstage presence".
