    Leon Wyczółkowski painted and sculpted royal sarcophagi many times between 1895 and 1900. Few of these works have survived to this day, the most important being a painting in the collection of the National Museum in Poznań, showing two sepulchral figures, the king and the queen, hidden in a dark crypt, into which only a ray of light enters through a narrow crack in the wall.
