10. Nov. 2014 · What an incredible EP. Combining the heaviness of TDEP with Mike Patton's insane artistry and vocals was a match made in heaven, or hell depending on how you look at it. The instrumentals (especially the drumming) are amazing, the numerous unexpected switchups and breakneck transitions are thrilling, and Mike Patton's vocals are outstanding.
I really don't care for Dillinger Escape Plan or tech-metal in general. In concept, highly mathematical metal played with precision and intensity should be great, but in execution I find DEP to just be a spastic series of miniature song sections, like someone took an interesting album, used a computer program to chop and slice it to tiny, tiny pieces, then rearranged it at random.
