8. März 2019 · About Mary Rockefeller. Mary Billings French was born to John French (b. December 4, 1863) and Mary Montagu Billings French (1869–1951), daughter of financier Frederick Billings. Her mother was an heiress while her father was a lawyer, and the couple married in 1907. John was the son of Warren Converse French and Sarah Ann Steele.
In Woodstock, the Rockefellers saw a community with many natural resources and a remarkable cultural history. After Mary French Rockefeller's mother died in 1951, she and Laurance inherited the Mansion, remodeled it, and modernized the Billings Farm. In June 1983, the Rockefellers formally opened the Billings Farm & Museum.
