Donald Myrick (April 6, 1940 – July 30, 1993) was an American saxophonist. A member of The Phenix Horns, he is best known for his work with Earth, Wind & Fire and Phil Collins. He played alto, tenor, and soprano sax as a member of Earth, Wind & Fire's original horn section, Phenix Horns, from 1975 through 1982. 30. Juli 1993 · Myrick was killed July 30, 1993, while police were serving a search warrant. Santa Monica Police said Officer Gary Barbaro fired one shot after mistaking a butane lighter in Myrick's hand for a weapon. Myrick's family settled a wrongful-death lawsuit against the city of Santa Monica for $400,000. The settlement ended litigation brought by Myrick's mother, wife and three daughters.
