25. März 2007 · Vilma Ebsen died March 12 in Thousand Oaks, Calif., an Associated Press obituary said, noting she had owned “the old Ebsen School of Dancing in Pacific Palisades.”
Ebsen started his career as a dancer on the Broadway and also formed a vaudeville act with his sister Vilma Ebsen. The siblings then moved to Hollywood in search of better prospects in the show business. Nearly three months after arriving in New York City with only $26.65 in his pocket, Buddy Ebsen landed his first role in Florenz Ziegfeld’s musical comedy, “Whoopee!” in October 1928. Vilma Ebsen joined the production a year later and performed alongside her brother until the show closed in Cleveland in February 1930.
