Tim Hardin 1 contains one of his most well-known and frequently covered songs, "Reason to Believe"—a notable hit for Rod Stewart in 1971. Some of the songs were demos that ended up on the final release. After principal recording was completed, string arrangements were overdubbed onto some of the tracks without Hardin's consent.

Tim Hardin (Eugene, 23 december 1941 – Los Angeles, 29 december 1980) was een Amerikaanse folkzanger die vooral in de jaren zestig opviel door zijn optreden op het Woodstock-festival en zijn bijdragen in de fameuze folkscene van Greenwich Village.
James Timothy Hardin (1941–1980) Tim Hardin, who was born in Eugene, was a folk, blues, and jazz singer and songwriter during the 1960s and 1970s. His two most successful compositions, written near the beginning of his career, were “Reason to Believe,” released in 1966, and “If I Were a Carpenter,” released in 1967.
