Hollyn menestys ennen lento-onnettomuudessa tapahtunutta kuolemaansa kesti vain puolitoista vuotta, mutta hän jätti pysyvän jäljen rock and rolliin.

La sua musica, che passa dal pop al rockabilly e al rock and roll (egli fu proprio uno dei primi grandi interpreti di tal genere), lo rese molto apprezzato dai giovani negli anni cinquanta.
