Joby Talbot. Profile: Joby Talbot (August 25, 1971, Wimbledon) is a British composer, arranger, piano and celesta player. Talbot studied composition with Simon Bainbridge and Robert Saxton at the Guildhall School of Music. His work has been performed by the BBC Philharmonic, Britten Sinfonia, the London Sinfonietta and the Brunel Ensemble.
Punishing Kiss is a studio album by German singer Ute Lemper, released in 2000 by Decca Records. It is the product of a collaboration between Lemper and the Divine Comedy and includes songs by the latter artist, as well as Nick Cave, Elvis Costello, Philip Glass, Tom Waits, Scott Walker and Ute Lemper's signature artist, Kurt Weill .
No survey of Joby Talbot’s orchestral music would be complete without mention of his Chacony in G minor, a re-working of Henry Purcell’s 17 th century masterpiece. Beginning austerely, as in reverence to his musical forebear, Talbot leads Purcell’s theme around the orchestra rising to a grand climax of 21 st century orchestral colour before returning to hushed strings and silence.
