In the case of any major development along the shores of the South Saskatchewan River, we must consider: the grasslands that will be removed, the Saskatchewan River Delta downstream, and the Indigenous communities that rely on the survival of these habitats for their physical and spiritual wellbeing.
The Saskatchewan River Delta has important ecological and cultural significance and needs protecting. After flowing 1,200 kilometres from Canada’s Rocky Mountains, collecting runoff from the Prairies and Boreal Plains, the Saskatchewan River spills into a maze of channels that cut across the low-lying forests and wetlands of the Saskatchewan River Delta.
Saskatchewan contains two major natural regions: the boreal forest in the north and the prairies in the south. They are separated by an aspen parkland transition zone near the North Saskatchewan River on the western side of the province, and near to south of the Saskatchewan River on the eastern side.
