The son of a military doctor, Faure studied Russian at the Paris School of Eastern Languages, later graduating from the Paris faculty of law and practicing in the capital.

He trained as a lawyer in Paris and became a member of the Bar at 27, the youngest lawyer in France to do so at the time.
