After the early 1970s, Dusty Springfield's work became erratic and uneven, to say the least. By the early 1980s, her voice was virtually gone. When the Pet Shop Boys rescuscitated her career, her voice seemed to have recovered some but she was saddled with inappropriate synthpop rubbish that sounds nightmarishly dated today and simply cannot occupy the same shelf as her better earlier work.
