Nov. 2006 · Squirrel was a legendary and elusive figure in jazz; he had known and played with many of the great jazz men in the Midwest during the 1920’s and 1930’s, including Bix Beiderbecke, had recorded as early as 1928 with the Princeton Triangle Jazz Band and his many informal sessions and recordings in Evanston, Illinois, had lasted into the 1940’s.

1. Nov. 2006 · Here he`s paired with Kenny Davern on a couple of LP`s from 1973 and 1981. The first, "Wellstood and His All Star Orchestra", one of his jokes since the orchestra is only him, has Davern on the soprano saxophone, starting with, "Fast As A Bastard", composed by the duo and played at amazing speed, followed by such old standards as "Georgia On My Mind', and "Smiles".

Aug. 2019 · At the end of the 1960s he was a member of the newly created World’s Greatest Jazz Band and when the 1970s began he teamed up with fellow soprano saxophonist Kenny Davern to form Soprano Summit. Hugely successful on record and on international tours, this band lasted until the end of the decade and he quickly followed it with his Bechet Legacy band.

Notes. Recorded December 17th, 21st, 22nd, 1973 at Vanguard Studios, N.Y.C. on two-inch sixteen track tape using Dolby noise reduction equipment. Mixed down to a four track quadraphonic tape. Stero disc mastered by Sterling Sound using a computer control variable pitch Neumann cutting system.
