It all began in 1431. The University of Poitiers, founded in 1431 by Pope Eugene IV, later confirmed by French King Charles VII’s letters patent, was originally composed of five Colleges: theology, canon law, civil law, medicine and arts. As early as the 16th century, the University of Poitiers was the centrepiece of the city’s cultural life.
The main location of the University of Poitiers, the Poitiers campus, is located to the east of the city, 13 minutes from the city center by bus. It includes some forty buildings housing a large part of the university’s teaching and research activities. The Poitiers campus, with its numerous green and wooded areas, boasts a high quality of life.
