Between the Buried and Me's wonderful musicianship bring otherwise boring songs up a few notches and leave them on a tolerable level. The only thing I can think of lamer than a tribute album is a band deciding that they need to record an entire album themselves of cover songs. It's a bizarre cross between self-importance, shameless moneygrubbing and naivete that just boggles the mind.
The Anatomy Of is a cover album so it doesn't really sound like Between the Buried and Me most of the time. The sound of the album borders between metalcore and alternative rock. There are times when the vocals are solid and times when they are just there. The instrument work is what I'm most disappointed with; there is nothing really outstanding about them.
