Perhaps his best-known role was also against type – as a dese-dems-and-dose prizefighter accidentally sent to heaven prematurely in 1941’s Here Comes Mr. Jordan. For his first film after returning, They Were Expendable (1945), Montgomery not only starred but assisted John Ford in the direction. He also starred in and directed the Raymond Chandler detective thriller Lady in the Lake, noted for its unique first-person point of view.
Robert Montgomery is a British contemporary artist well known for his work in public space. He makes light works, billboard poems, fire poems, paintings and watercolours. His work brings text art closer to the language of poetry. He represented the UK in the 2012 Kochi Biennale and the 2016 Yinchuan Biennale.
