The school, now named simply St. Bees Grammar School, continued to expand, with the current headmaster's residence and school house being constructed in 1886. The Station Hotel, lying on the south side of the railway line, was purchased in 1888 and opened as another boarding house. At the same time the original school room, now the "hot room", was extended and the ceiling heightened.

St Bees School has been an integral part of this picturesque coastal village for many centuries.
