Like any anthology film, Subway Stories: Tales from the Underground is at times spotty, but mostly it's an entertaining "whoa, look how young [actor] is!" driven HBO film that weaves ten stories by ten directors together. Maybe the closest you'll get to seeing Abel Ferrara direct something with a borderline fantasy/whimsical tone.

Bob Balaban's segment with Steve Zahn and Jerry Stiller is another highlight, while even the worst of the bunch ("Subway Car From Hell" opens and closes the film, bizarrely) are at least goofily enjoyable in some respects.
