Steamboy has a worthy animation for the year it came out and the influences on European cinema are more than notorious, the story is well told, characters that in their way of being have a lot to say and the dilemma that Ray goes through leaves you impatient to know what is happening. Superficially it seems to be excellent, but the whole result does not make it so special at all.
