Kasturba was a woman of courage and in her early years resisted the domination of her husband. As Gandhi said, "She was a woman always of strong will which in early days, I used to mistake for obstinacy. But that strong will enabled her to become unwittingly my teacher in the practice of non-violent non-cooperation."
Kasturba Kapadia was born on April 11 1869 in Porbandar, in present day Gujarat. She was the daughter of Gokuldas Makanji Kapadia, a wealthy merchant. Kasturba had two brothers, one younger and one older than her. Her father was a friend of Karamchand Gandhi, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s father.

17. Dez. 2022 · Kasturba went to jail four times in India, each time in her own right. During the civil disobedience movement, when Gandhi was in jail, she chose to take his place. She addressed meetings and was arrested on January 11, 1933 and taken to Sabarmati Jail. She was sentenced to one and a half months of simple imprisonment.
