Hanna Solf sah sich nicht nur als seine Ehefrau, sondern auch als Mitstreiterin im Kampf für Humanität, Recht und Frieden. Die Aufenthalte außerhalb Deutschlands (Samoa, Indien, Deutsch-Ostafrika, Japan und England) prägten Hanna Solf und sorgten nicht zuletzt für das tiefe Verständnis anderer Kulturen, das das Paar auszeichnete.
Hanna Solf. Während seines dritten Heimaturlaubs lernte Wilhelm Solf, der bereits auf das 50. Lebensjahr zuging, Johanna Dotti kennen. Sein Bruder Hermann Solf hatte als Architekt für die Eltern Johanna Dottis das Herrenhaus und verschiedene andere Neubauten in Neuenhagen bei Berlin gebaut und führte ihn in die Familie ein.

After Solf's death his wife, Hanna, and daughter Lagi (who was born in Samoa) continued this work and were imprisoned by the Nazis. While their accomplices were executed during the war, the Solf women escaped by the barest of margins as the Russians invaded Berlin in the last stages of the war.
