First, go to the directory where you installed the game. By default, it is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Longest Journey. In the game install directory, open configure.exe . Change any setting and click "OK". That has created a preferences.ini file which we will modify in a bit.

Now I managed to actually see the in-game videos, but only if I play the game force-running it in a 640x480 window, and while the video plays I have to constantly move the mouse, or it freezes. This does obviously KILL the game experience, since everything is so small and I can't even move the tiny window...
