Herbert William Mullin (April 18, 1947 – August 18, 2022) was an American serial killer. He killed 13 people in California in the early 1970s. He said he killed these people to stop earthquakes from happening. In 1973, after a trial to see if he was insane or culpable, he was convicted of two first-degree murders and nine second-degree murders.

Mullin, a serial murderer who had confessed to killing 13 people in the 1970s, passed away of natural causes on Aug. 18, 2022, at 7:35 p.m. He was 75 years old. Mullin had been housed at California Health Care Facility. The San Joaquin County Office of the Medical Examiner will determine his cause of death.
