The AWI works in the following three scientific topic fields Geoscientists at the Alfred Wegener Institute are reconstructing the history of the polar continents and seas. They study sedimentation history, the processes of deposition and geological transformation in the oceans, marine bio-geochemical cycles, and the paleoclimate of the polar regions.

Um zum Wegener-Haus des AWI zu kommen, können Sie vom Hauptbahnhof die Buslinien 502, 505, 506, 508 und 509 nehmen und an der Haltestelle „Hochschule Bremerhaven“ aussteigen. Von dort überqueren Sie den Theodor-Heuss-Platz, gehen in die Linzer Straße und erreichen so das Wegener-Haus in wenigen Gehminuten (s. linke Karte, Weg ab Linzer Straße eingezeichnet).
