The Dutch East Indies, [3] also known as the Netherlands East Indies ( Dutch: Nederlands (ch)-Indië; Indonesian: Hindia Belanda) and Dutch Indonesia, was a Dutch colony with territory mostly comprising the modern state of Indonesia, which declared independence on 17 August 1945.
Florin sign. The florin sign ( ƒ) is a symbol that is used for the currencies named florin, [1] also called guilder. The Dutch name for the currency is gulden. The symbol "ƒ" is the lowercase version of Ƒ of the Latin alphabet. In many serif typefaces, it can often be substituted with a normal italic small-letter f ( f ).

The Commissioners-General of the Dutch East Indies (in Dutch Commissarissen Generaal over Nederlandsch-Indië as they called themselves) was a commission instituted by the Dutch king William I of the Netherlands in 1815 to implement the provisions of the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1814 and take over the government of the Dutch Indies from the British lieutenant-governor of Java, John Fendall.
