Kasturba Kapadia was born on April 11 1869 in Porbandar, in present day Gujarat. She was the daughter of Gokuldas Makanji Kapadia, a wealthy merchant. Kasturba had two brothers, one younger and one older than her. Her father was a friend of Karamchand Gandhi, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s father.

She addressed meetings and was arrested on January 11, 1933 and taken to Sabarmati Jail. She was sentenced to one and a half months of simple imprisonment.
