Vor einem Tag · Maria Goeppert-Mayer Born in 1906 in Germany, Maria Goeppert-Mayer moved to the US with her husband Joseph Edward Mayer, a chemist, in1930. While in the US, Goeppert-Mayer developed the nuclear shell model, for which she shared the 1963 Nobel Prize in Physics with Johannes Hans Daniel Jensen and Eugene Paul Wigner. She was the second woman to receive the award.
