Taejong (Korean: 태종; Hanja: 太宗; 16 May 1367 – 10 May 1422), personal name Yi Bang-won (이방원; 李芳遠), was the third monarch of the Joseon dynasty of Korea and the father of Sejong the Great. He was the fifth son of King Taejo, the founder of the dynasty.

Leben. Yi Seong-gye wurde am 27. Oktober 1335 (11. Oktober 1335 nach dem Mondkalender) in Hamheung ( 함흥) in der Provinz Hamgyeong-do ( 함경도) des damaligen Goryeo-Reiches ( 고려) geboren. Er entstammte einer Familie, die zu einer sich in Goryeo neu gebildeten Militär-Klasse gehörte.
Taejo of Joseon (4 November 1335 – 27 June 1408) was the first king of the Joseon dynasty. His given name was Yi Seong-gye ( Hangul: 이성계; Hanja: 李成桂 ). He changed his name to Yi Dan ( Hangul: 이단; Hanja: 李旦) after he became king. He ruled Korea from 1392 to 1398.
