Machgielis " Max " Euwe ( Dutch: [ˈøːʋə]; [1] May 20, 1901 – November 26, 1981) was a Dutch chess player, mathematician, author, and chess administrator. He was the fifth player to become World Chess Champion, a title he held from 1935 until 1937. He served as President of FIDE, the World Chess Federation, from 1970 to 1978.
Max Euwe war der fünfte Schachweltmeister der Geschichte und hielt diesen Titel von 1935 bis 1937. Außerdem gewann er insgesamt 12 Mal die niederländischen Meisterschaften. Ein Rekord, der bis heute besteht. Er war bekannt für sein äußerst logisches und methodisches Spiel.
Max Euwe was the fifth world chess champion, holding the title from 1935-37. The first grandmaster from the Netherlands, he won a total of 12 Dutch championships in his lifetime, a record that still stands today.

Er begann früh mit dem Schachspielen und hatte bereits in seiner Jugend Erfolg in lokalen und regionalen Turnieren. Er besuchte die HBS-Schule und hatte gute Kenntnisse in Mathematik und Naturwissenschaften.
