If you’re new to TeX and LaTeX or just want an easy installation, get a full TeX distribution. The TeX Users Group (TUG) has a list of notable distributions that are entirely, or least primarily, free software, i.e., there are no charges for download or use.
MiKTeX is available for selected operating systems. Please check the prerequisites in order to find out whether your system is supported. If your system is not (yet) supported: it is not too difficult to build MiKTeX. To install a basic TeX/LaTeX system on Windows, download and run this installer.
