  1. William Comstock, a scout on the central plains in the days of the Old West, was celebrated by contemporaries for his skills but was killed in the line of duty. William Averill Comstock was born in Comstock, Michigan on January 17, 1842, to Horace and Sarah Cooper Comstock.

  6. 12. Nov. 2012 · The site of the legendary buffalo hunt between Buffalo Bill Cody and Medicine Bill Comstock is just ten miles west of where you now stand. It was the summer of 1868. Bill Cody had just successfully fulfilled a contract to provide meat for Kansas-Pacific Railroad workers.

  7. Medicine Bill Comstock, a grand-nephew of James Fenimore Cooper, was Chief Scout for the 7th US Cavalry during the 1867 Expedition into Nebraska and Colorado. He was well-known thoughout Kansas, having been a scout at Fort Wallace, Kansas, for a long time.
