Memphis Technical High School, originally Memphis Vocational School, was a high school that served downtown Memphis, Tennessee from 1911 to 1987. The school building that exists today was constructed in 1927, and is operated by the Shelby County School System as the Northwest Preparatory Academy, serving children who are unable to ...
This building is part of Tech's history because it was used as an annex to relieve the crowded conditions of Memphis High School, and later as an annex for Crockett Technical, and even as an annex for Central High. When it was no longer used for a school, the Board of Education occupied the building.
HIGH Auto Shop The Auto Shop is designed for boys who wish to become mechan- ics upon graduation. In this shop, every phase of auto repairing is taught. Any person expecting to take Auto Shop should have first year algebra and mechanical drawing before applying.

The school was originally known as Memphis Vocational School when it opened in 1911 in the former Memphis High School building at 317 Poplar Avenue. Continued growth necessitated a new building which opened in 1928 at 1266 Poplar and the school was renamed Memphis Technical High School. It closed in 1987.
