Lynch's musical career transitioned during college when she became interested in bluegrass music. She joined a band called Hickory Wind, which eventually changed its name to the Front Porch String Band. [5] Lynch played with the group until 1981, when it retired from the road.
The Front Porch String Band came together in Alabama in the 1970s and was a showcase for Claire’s wonderfully expressive vocals and the instrumental talents of her husband/partner Larry Lynch, as well as the impressive playing by other members of the band.
Blazing her own trail in the mid 70's when there were few role models for young women in the genre, Claire Lynch made history when she led the Front Porch String Band which evolved in the 80’s and 90’s into “one of the sharpest and most exciting post-modern bluegrass bands on the circuit.”
20. Dez. 2012 · While she has led the Claire Lynch Band since 2005, she got her star fronting the Alabama-based Front Porch String Band in the 1970s. Rebel Records has recently released Hills of Alabam, a collection of some of the Front Porch String Band’s best tunes from the 1980s and 90s.
