1. März 2005 · This nine-song disc offers up seven of his past compositions, plus two covers: “Hard Time Killin’ Floor Blues” by Skip James and “I Am The Light Of This World” by Reverend Gary Davis. Both pass by in a pleasing manner, forcefully played. But it is the playing of those two artists that is his musical touchstone, not their singing.
1 Issue. Tap the Red Cane Whirlwind [p] Live. 2005 CD Rykodisc / RCD 10801. May 19 2011. This live session is a good argument for Phelps as being one of the most talented singer-songwriters around. His unique blues/folk/americana style is drenched in raw vocals and inestimable picking, except for a couple of old nuggets, all the tunes are his.
